The sub-group of Women in Computing had a secret meeting somewhere between the computer lab and the general mess and decided to put out ONE poster at the Grace Hopper Research Competition. Although the pressure of a perfect first-year party was on and other unique challenges such as the last minute outage of the Internet were in the making, a group of us decided to represent iWiSE in general and make a poster of our first effort in Community Outreach. We had been discussing this in our meetings about going out to schools in and around Ropar and conducting workshops with different groups for different standards (including a Punjabi-speaking-representative from the IIT Ropar group) and we put down our thoughts for technology we use to achieve this.
August 2010 The first runners at Ropar Runners were from iWiSE =) On one fine evening in August, all of us deciced to go on a run/walk along the Sutluj Canal. Within two weeks the word spread on campus and we had the boys join in the third week. We are now an inclusive run group that watches out for each other and respects each other during the period of the run. Ropar Runners has three simple rules: (a) Watch out for ourselves and each other during the run/walk including carrying cell phones and having pace-bunnies for various groups and speeds; (b) No holding hands and budding romances or eve-teasing will be supported as this will make Anu gain weight and kick said hand-holder/romantic/eve-teaser out of the group; and (c) To RESPECT the other runners/walkers and the environment and assimilate the experience.
Hello everybody…………..here are the details of our first informal iWISE meet in the absence of Anu Ma’am conducted on 29 march 2011 at IIT Ropar. I am pleased as well as proud to describe the successful accomplishment of the meet with around 30 people participating in it. It was a nice experience with lot of fun and worthy discussion. We all discussed many issues like how to promote iWISE beyond IIT Ropar, schedule for Ropar Runners, schedule for iWISE meets and so on. The Group consensus was obtained on arranging the meet two days a week along with the running program. Also a travel plan was laid for Amritsar on Sunday, 3 April 2011. Besides this a small fun activity in the group of two people was organized in which every group had to draw something related to iWISE. The responses were great and highly creative. Ultimately the meet was summarized by enjoying some snacks and candies………………….:)
It was really a great day for which I want to thank all the people who came there and made the event memorable………………………………..
Here are some of the photos of the event:
Besides this following are some of the photos related to the creative art work produced by the various groups in the meet:
Also I would like to invite the ideas for any other activities that can be included in future iWISE meetings.
Trip to Amritsar:
On 3 April 2011, the iWISE group consisting of 23 people went to Amritsar with high spirits. The trip was stupendously fabulous and greatly enjoyable. With proper time management and fully established plan it became very ecstatic experience for which I would like to thank Neetu, Neelika, Pooja, Tania and all others who worked very hard to make the event happen as well as lead it to success. All things related to event from transportation to management of everything like food, people and time was done by these people. For this I really want to appreciate as well as thank them heartedly. We all went to Golden Temple, Jaliawala Bagh and Waga Border which enriched our lives with many inexplicable and peak experiences. I hope that we keep on organizing such trips and I am able to learn some tips from these people to organize the future events……………………………………..
Here are some of the pictures of our awesome trip…………………………….:)
